By law, an employer is required to ensure that their electrical equipment is maintained in order to prevent danger.
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and fixed appliance testing is an important to demonstrate an effective maintenance regime, and to demonstrate that employers are meeting their legal duties.
Here at Westside Electrical we can carry out your PAT testing and you can depend on our professional experience to help you comply with your electrical responsibilities. We are happy to undertake PAT testing as frequently as you wish, and for as many or as few items as you require, most companies we PAT test for are long standing clients that we attend year after year.
What is PAT Testing?
Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination but some types of defect can only be found by testing. However, it is essential to understand that visual examination is an essential part of the process because some types of electrical safety defect can’t be detected by testing alone.
A relatively brief user check (based upon simple training and perhaps assisted by the use of a brief checklist) can be a very useful part of any electrical maintenance regime. However, more formal visual inspection and testing by a competent person may also be required at appropriate intervals, depending upon the type of equipment and the environment in which it is used.
Should I get my equipment tested?
If your equipment is brand new then your electrical equipment should be safe. We would recommend getting your equipment tested after a year to ensure your equipment is still safe to use.
We recommend that you set an annual date for us to come and check your electrical equipment, however we will notify you each year when it is due.
Landlords
It should be noted that landlords have a responsibility to carry this out every year by law
